About Ines Ljajic

Ines Ljajic (born 1996) is a designer and artist based in Basel. Her work brings together textile design, artistic practice and visual imagery. Her background in textile design, as well as her passion for photography, music and dance, accompanies her creative process. She uses photography as a form of mindful observation that continually opens up new perspectives, while her sensitivity to rhythm, sound and movement also finds its way into her work.

Through a deep connection to material, curiosity and continuous experimentation, she translates her impressions and experiences onto canvas, into textiles and into works that cross different media. These works are characterised by a wide range of textures, in which contrasting pigments capture movement and emotion. At the same time, she gives space to colours with which she associates deeply personal and positive sensations.

Nature and its elements remain, alongside human experience, one of her most important sources of inspiration. Working with different media and techniques is for her an ongoing exploration of new visual possibilities. Each work holds a personal experience or memory. Rather than keeping a diary, she organises her thoughts directly through the artistic process, making her own form of thinking visible. What remains is a visual trace of what moves her, occupies her thoughts and accompanies her.
